Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- In a mixing bowl, cream together sugar and shortening until fluffy.
- Add the egg and vanilla. Mix until combined.
- Whisk together salt, flour, and baking powder in another bowl. Gradually add to the wet mixture, alternating with milk until fully blended.
- Pour batter into a greased 9-inch square pan and bake for 20-25 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack.
- Slice cooled cake into servings and layer with whipped cream and sliced strawberries.
