  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar, sifted
  • 2 Tbsp pure maple syrup
  • 12 Tbsp milk or plant-based milk as needed for consistency
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon (optional)
  • flaky sea salt or chopped toasted pecans for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, fine sea salt, and ground cinnamon.
  2. In a large bowl, beat together the softened butter and packed brown sugar on medium speed until light and fluffy.
  3. Add in the pure maple syrup and continue beating until fully combined.
  4. Beat in the large egg and pure vanilla extract until just combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture while mixing on low speed until just combined.
  6. Cover the dough with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  7. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  8. Scoop about 1.5 tablespoons of dough onto the sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  9. Bake for 10–12 minutes until edges are lightly golden and centers look just set.
  10. Cool on sheets for about 5 minutes before transferring to a rack to cool completely.
  11. In a saucepan, melt the remaining unsalted butter and cook until browned, then whisk in sifted powdered sugar, maple syrup, and milk until desired consistency is achieved.
