  • 1/3 cup (80ml) pure maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon maple extract
  • 1 cup (130g) chopped pecans (optional)
  • 2 Tablespoons (28g) unsalted butter for icing
  • 1/3 cup (80ml) pure maple syrup for icing
  • 1 cup (112g) sifted confectioners’ sugar for icing
  • Pinch salt, to taste for icing

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt; set aside.
  2. Using a stand mixer or hand mixer, cream softened butter and dark brown sugar until smooth. Add egg and blend until combined, then mix in maple syrup, vanilla extract, and maple extract.
  3. Gradually combine dry ingredients with wet until mixed; fold in chopped pecans if desired.
  4. Chill dough for at least 2 hours before rolling into balls.
  5. Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
