- 2 ½ – 3 cups white whole wheat or all-purpose flour
- 1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) instant yeast
- 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 cup warm water or warm milk
- 2 teaspoons honey
- 7 tablespoons salted butter
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 3 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons cream cheese
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a stand mixer bowl, mix flour, yeast, and salt. Add warm water or milk, honey, and 1 tablespoon of butter.
- Knead until smooth, then let rise covered for about 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll out the dough into a rectangle, spread remaining butter, and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar. Cut into strips and twist into knots.
- Mix melted butter with remaining cinnamon and brown sugar; top each knot before baking.
- Bake for approximately 16-20 minutes until golden.
- Prepare glaze with powdered sugar, cream cheese, vanilla, and water to desired consistency; drizzle over baked knots.
