- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 1 cup white granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs (room temperature)
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- Food coloring (red and blue)
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for coating)
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, cream together softened butter and sugar until smooth. Add eggs and mix until well combined.
- Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt into the wet mixture. Combine until thick and sticky. Chill dough in the refrigerator for at least one hour.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Divide chilled dough into three portions. Color two portions with red and blue food coloring respectively; leave one plain.
- Roll small amounts (1/2 tablespoon) of each colored dough into balls, then roll in powdered sugar until fully coated.
- Place on the prepared baking sheets and bake for 12-14 minutes until tops are crackly but centers remain soft.
- Let cool on baking sheets for about ten minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
